Well, we did it! We just hit the magic button and booked a trip to Las Vegas! As you all remember (I'm sure) we celebrated our 15th Anniversary in January. As a belated gift to ourselves we are going to enjoy 4 nights at the Flamingo Hotel located in the heart of the Vegas strip. It's been 10 years since we've taken a real vacation alone, and we are very excited! Chris' dad was very generous to offer their babysitting services while we are gone...so they will make the trip down to take care of Liv, Tony and Nelson for us while we're gone. Don't worry Nancy, I'll print out directions to the Mall!
We will be gone April 3-7 so we are hoping the weather will be warm enough to enjoy their awesome 15-acre pool. We were looking for a true "old school" Vegas experience, and the Flamingo looked like the perfect hotel for us. :) We'd love to hear from any of you who have traveled there...please share your tips, suggestions, etc....

-don't take any literature handed out to you by street thugs on the strip.
-if you really want to win some money, don't waste your time sitting at the blackjack tables or video poker and slots, learn how to play craps and the roulette wheel.
-despite the rumors, it's expensive to eat good there, a few of my staples have been Noodles in the Bellagio and the Carnegie Deli at the Mirage, but you will find tons of options just walking up and down the strip.
-see the sea battle at treasure island, be sure to walk through ceasars palace(across the street from your hotel), you can see where 2-pac was gunned down by biggy smalls in the main lobby.
-i recommend a tour of the hoover dam, or at least if you're sleeping one off in your room watch the 24 hour, 7 day a week documentry on the building of the dam they play in every room in every hotel.
-i loved the jousting at excalibur, and take a walk through the wynn if you can.
-NY NY is great, but you will find all this out for yourself
-oh yea, don't waste dime at the airport slot machines, they don't pay, they are hidious machines meant to drain the last ounce of dignity a man has before he catches his flight home.
-and if you happen to find yourself at the ranch, please, please do whatever cindy asks, and tell her i said i'll send the money soon. what?

Hey Tony and Liv, go nuts and have a blast with Gramma and PaPa Maras. Skip school, watch MTV, eat junk, stay up late and then sleep in. Just like your Mom and Dad are doing at Vegas.

i had a dad who was home every day for me. i'd say you had an amazing 60 years and counting.
Chris and Jo.....enjoy your vacation......I think I would have preferred a nice quiet sunny beach somewhere...but then.....what do I know.......

Vegas is affordable, warm and you don't need a passport! :)
Jo & Chris...don't sleep at all while you're there, try to enjoy everything, eating crap you'd never eat, playing five cent slots until you drop, sunbathing, trying new beverages, see a show! Liv and Tony, my advice is the same, don't sleep while your mom and dad are gone, eat banana splits for supper, whine for treats, ask to eat out every night, mess your rooms and watch every PG13 movie you can get your hands on. Just kidding John and Nancy....those two are the best!!! Love, Gramma Sally

I guess I am JUST going to HAVE to comment...I would recommend everyone to vist SIN city...I recommend...WALKING SHOES...and yes, IGNORE...the guys on the sidewalk..they are handing out naughty cards..eat at Excalibur...it is across the street...GREAT buffet...and Gma & Papa will do fine...like the kids say...no rules at grandma's..

Vegas Baby! I am so excited for you guys! Brian and I have been to Vegas more times than I care to mention! So, having said that, here are my tips.
Shopping: Fashion Show Mall (across the street from the Wynn)
M & M Store. Located by the MGM Grand, this four story marketing scheme is sure to rip you off by charging you too much for custom colored M & M's and so on..however, I have never been there and not bought something. I visit it everytime I go. Try to go during the weekdays to avoid the major weekend crowd.
If you want a chance to see real live celebrities in action:
LAX Club at the Luxor....
Tao at the Venetian
Pure at Cesars Palace
If you like Prince, there is a Prince impersonator at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay....It's $10 to get in, and if you drink enough, you would think he was the real thing.
As far as restaurants, there are so many options, I am sure you won't go hungry. They all post their menus outside the restaurant so you can see what they have before you decide to go in. Mmm,try some Gelato at the Bellagio or Venetian...
See the musical water show at the Bellagio - it's free.
As stated above, Craps is the only way to go.....most casinos offer classes.
Bring tennis shoes....you will walk alot! Everything looks close but it really isn't!
Weather should be awesome in early April....average is around 78 degrees.

Looks like you guys have plenty of tips but i will say if you want easy money go to the Hard Rock Casino and play "War"...sounds stupid but i've played it twice and have won about $500 bucks...not bad for "war". And make sure you take a cab there and don't walk...Vic is still mad at me for that one (it was over a 100 that day)! Have fun and remember, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"!!

i actually went to vegas same time a few years back. the only negative was that it was very, very busy during that time. everywhere was packed. that aside, the weather was perfect for the pool. my favorite bar was the dueling piano bar at new york, new york. if you go in the m & m store, the left side is discount show tickets. i can't remember the one we went to, but you can get a good price if you go there to buy them. oh, and i think it was the flamingo...there was a cool outside bar. carousel i think. have a blast. it should be fun. and madame tussands wax museum was fun too.
