We just returned from our annual camping trip to McCarthy's Beach State Park in Northern Minnesota. The kids look forward to their week in the woods each year, and this year did not disappoint as we were blessed with near perfect weather all week! This was Nelson's first camping trip and he did GREAT! We were nervous about bringing him, but he settled into camping quite nicely.

I couldn't resist including this picture...by the end of each day, this is what Tony looked like. The best part for the kids is running around wild, eating junk and getting dirty. If you saw the 10 loads of laundry (no exaggeration!) we came home with you'd cringe.

During the week the kids and I made a side trip to Cloquet to visit our friends, the Hartungs. They recently moved into a new house so we were glad to see their new pad and it's always wonderful to spend time with old friends...our visits are always WAY too short!

We camp with Chris' family each year. The kids love the time with their Grandparents, aunts and cousins. Here is a cool stump we found while taking a hike in the woods with Lizzie. The White Pines up there are amazing...hundreds of years old and straight as an arrow. You don't see trees like that in Nebraska.

Aren't they sweet????? Tony (6), Elizabeth (almost 6), Drew (3), Olivia (9) all lined up for a mid-day snack.

Don't be fooled by those cute smiles....these 4 are something to behold when they are all together. Is there any greater gift than time spent with your cousins???????

One of the favorite things to do is fish while on this trip....I just loved this picture and wanted to share a special moment between father and son.

Fish are plentyful and the kids enjoy catching them one right after another.

The fish don't seem to get any bigger year after year, but the kids sure do!!!!

Our newest little cousin, Celia, was in the area for a wedding reception. So one day Gr/Gr Thompson, Auntie Ernie and Uncle Jeff brought her out for a visit. She loved swimming in the water with the kids. You're a great camper Celia!!!

A fun and exhausting week was had by all. Liv, Nelson, and Tony crashed immediately on the LOOOONNNNGGG ride home. We all look forward to next year...hopefully I'll have the laundry done by then!

Hi Happy Campers!
Glad you had such a great time! It was fun spending the day with you guys...and it was by far some of the best fish I've ever had. Kudos Chris! And thanks for the socks!
We enjoyed our day with you, too...great weather, wonderful fish, good company, cold beer, smokey campfire (I hate rabbits), nasty biting flies and all! Great pictures, Jo....but I agree with Brian, we need to see you in some of them. If the camera is too hard for Chris, maybe Livie could learn? Gramma S.
Great Pics! You are an inspiration to us lame bloggers! We loved our visit with you all (missed you, Chris!), not just because it included a binge at Gordy's and the Warming House. Hopefully next year we can get in at the exclusive McCarthy Beach. Anyone have a spare act of congress to share??
The last picture was my fav!
Can't wait till next year!
