Saturday was a glorious winter day. The temps were mild, the sun was shining and there was no wind to speak of. We donned our winter gear, tired and beat up as it may be, and headed to Neale Woods in North Omaha for a LONG hike.

We did not see single soul while in the woods. Just beautiful, undisturbed sights like above. It was so quiet...or as quiet as can be with Tony along, hence why we see so little wildlife on these jaunts!

The kids had a blast trudging up an unlimited supply of hills in order to slide down with screams of delight. Why anyone would rather be sitting in a gym all weekend watching their kids play basketball, is beyond me. I truly am glad sports don't rule our life and that we can offer our kids these weekend adventures to teach them a love of nature and give them activities they can continue for their entire lives.

I am a little blurry as it was no small feat to hurdle the log and trudge through knee-deep snow for a cheesy family shot.

While we heated up quickly and started to shed our layers, the granola bars got awfully hard and proved a challenge for Tony. The one with braces simply opted for a slim
jim instead.

Such a curious oddity in the middle of the woods....

Whew....after 2 hours of hiking up and down hills through the snow we had two VERY tired kiddos.

Chris informed them that we are going to start doing hikes like this every weekend so we can build up their stamina and get ready for our trip to Yellowstone this summer!
(don't tell Chris, but my calves are KILLING me today.)
Hope you enjoy their squeals of delight as much as we did. I officially put away our flannel sheets this weekend....THINK SPRING!!!
