Signs of Fall in Nebraska

We don't get a lot of fall color down here in the Cornhusker State. Most of the trees are oaks, and although they turn a nice golden brown, we miss the glorious blazing maple trees of home. This year we have enjoyed summer turning to fall by watching our two apple trees flourish. They are LOADED this year! The color is beautiful, especially when the sun is low.

The kids planted sunflowers this year and they are awesome. This one is at least 7 feet tall, and still a pretty sight although it is getting eaten by grasshoppers. (notice the giant one on the left) We are anxious to put the heads out for the birds as the weather gets cold.

that is NOT our squirrel feeder in the background. Although, I'm sure the one squirrel in our neighborhood enjoys it! :)
