Last Sunday we took the kids for a drive into Iowa to our favorite little farm to pick strawberries. It was a perfect day....75 and sunny, nice breeze to keep the bugs away. Tony, our consummate thinker wore a red shirt for the occasion. It was one of those rare perfect days...no one complained or fought or grumbled about picking. In less than an hour we had this...
...yum! Livie picked hers clean, therefore her box was not as full. Plus, as she dutifully pointed out, all those stems added weight, therefore our boxes cost more than hers! She is her father's daughter.
It was a LOT of work hulling all those berries...but by bedtime we had two batches of jam made, 2 trays of berries dehydrating, numerous bags and containers frozen and one big bowl ready to go on top of ice cream! Raspberries will be ready the first week of July....
